January 13, 2009: Lake LB Houston is a publicly owned spill lake next to the Trinity River in Irving. It is literally across the street from Las Colinas, but also and complete world apart. I heard about it on the Texas Fishing Forum and one day, really bored and in need of something to do before school started, headed on down there.

I fished at first near the parking lot where the mountain bike guys are and then headed down a little bit, onto a sand bar that sticks out to form a little island in the middle of the lake. I was wearing my rubber boots and boy did I need um. The bottom of the lake has a very shallows slope. It did not noticeably drop off from the island until very far out, much further than I could cast. So after about 30 minutes, I made my way further south along the shore, looking for a place to fish. I finally followed a small trail in the woods, to a muddy spot on the shore. There, surrounded by and old washing machine from the 1950s, several empty 40oz Malt Liquor bottles, and a bunch of empty Newport packs, I fished.

I caught my first ever Crappie there, with a 1/8 oz Crappie Thunder with a green and chartreuse tail.

On the AbuMatic. And that was all I caught that time. I was there for 5 hours, and got that one Crappie. But man it was fun.
